Opportunities to get outdoors abound in Vancouver, with hiking, snowboarding and skiing some of the most popular activities. Kayak up into Indian Armfjord to see if you can spot seals and eagles or relax in the sun on Kitsilano Beach or English Bay.

First Nations culture is very much evident in Vancouver. Stanley Park has a collection of colourful and intricately-carved totem poles, and the world-class Museum of Anthropology has thousands of fascinating artefacts from Canada’s First Nations.

Centuries of immigration have given the city a cosmopolitan atmosphere and many unique ethnic neighbourhoods to explore. Be sure to check out Chinatown’s speciality tea boutiques and the classical gardens at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Park.

As you might expect in a port city, Vancouver’s seafood is second to none, but the real magnet for foodies is the craft beer. Join locals at the tasting rooms in the historic Brewery Creek area or visit one of the more than 50 microbreweries scattered across the city.

Getting around

The main airport is Vancouver International, 25 minutes away from the city centre on the SkyTrain. The SkyTrain is also the best way to get around central Vancouver or you can take advantage of the city’s bike-share program. For a quintessential Vancouver experience, take the ferry along False Creek. The little blue boats provide a stunning view of the Toronto skyline and stop at plenty of popular sights like Science World and the Olympic Village.
