About Tagbilaran

The only city on the island of Bohol, Tagbilaran City is a provincial metropolis where you’ll see centuries-old buildings and local food markets instead of high rises and shopping malls. Overlooking the Bohol Sea and connected by road to Panglao Island, Tagbilaran City charms you with its natural beauty and revered historical sites.

Things to do

If you’re interested in Bohol’s history, visit the National Museum to explore a range of archaeological and anthropology exhibits. The museum is also home to local artwork, but its most eye-catching features are the prehistoric human skulls. Walk over to the nearby Carlos P. Garcia Heritage Museum to see the personal belongings and mementoes of former President Carlos P. Garcia.

Drive along the coastline to reach the iconic Blood Compact monument, which depicts a famous blood compact (an ancient Philippine ritual) between rulers in 1565. Drive back towards the city to encounter a range of waterfront restaurants. Dine on delicious Filipino cuisine at Mangrove Restaurant and KTV or indulge in authentic German food and beer at Black Forest Hut.

Venture across to Panglao Island to see beautiful historic structures, including the Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, a church built during the 19th-century Spanish colonial period. It overlooks the water and has the iconic Dauis Watchtower next to it. Panglao Island is also home to picturesque beaches, including Panglao Beach, which sits near the popular Hinagdanan Cave that is made from limestone.

Nature lovers can visit the Rajah Sikatuna Protected Landscape, where you can hike forested limestone hills, explore caves and camp. You can also snorkel Mabaw Reef on the western side of Tagbilaran City to see vibrant fish swimming among the coral.

Getting around

Tagbilaran City is easily reached by flying into Tagbilaran Airport or catching a ferry to Tagbilaran City Tourist Pier. You can get around using the local tricycles, taxis, jeepneys or buses.
