About Sogndalsfjora

Surrounded by soaring mountains, Sogndalsfjora is a quintessential Norwegian town. It enjoys a beautiful setting on Sogndalsfjorden, an arm of the spectacular Sognefjorden. An excellent selection of restaurants and guesthouses makes Sogndalsfjora a great base for exploring the picturesque region. The nearby village of Kaupanger is worth a visit and will charm you with a Viking-era church built in the 12th century.

In winter, skiers and snowboarders descend on nearby Sogndal Skisenter – Hodlekve. The family-friendly ski resort features 3.5 kilometres of downhill runs, as well as groomed trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. After an exhilarating day on the slopes, warm up with roasted pork belly, smoked lamb ribs and a glass of “aquavit” Norwegian liquor at a cosy tavern.

The five-kilometre trail up Bjørgahaug peak rewards you with panoramic views over the Sogndalsfjora town centre and cobalt-blue Sogndalsfjorden. Pack lunch and enjoy a picnic with a view.
