Surrounded by soaring mountains, Sogndalsfjora is a quintessential Norwegian town. It enjoys a beautiful setting on Sogndalsfjorden, an arm of the spectacular Sognefjorden. In winter, skiers and snowboarders descend on nearby Sogndal Skisenter – Hodlekve. The family-friendly ski resort features 3.5 kilometres of downhill runs, as well as groomed trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. After an exhilarating day on the slopes, warm up with roasted pork belly, smoked lamb ribs and a glass of “aquavit” Norwegian liquor at a cosy tavern.
The five-kilometre trail up Bjørgahaug peak rewards you with panoramic views over the Sogndalsfjora town centre and cobalt-blue Sogndalsfjorden. Pack lunch and enjoy a picnic with a view.
Sogndalsfjora is located in Vestland County, a four-hour drive from Bergen. Ferries connect Sogndalsfjora with other towns and villages along Sogndalsfjorden and Sognefjorden. Rental cars are the easiest way to explore Sogndalsfjora and Vestland County. Sogndal Airport is a 25-minute drive away and Bergen Airport is a four-hour drive south-west.
