East Porto Alegre is a sub district located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil. While the west borders the Guaibi River the east is bursting with affluent neighbourhoods, local parks and outdoor cafes to boot.
Things to do in Porto Alegre
From central Porto Alegre, the eastern suburbs are only a 30-minute drive away. Before heading here spend some time in the city exploring the local museums. It’s tradition to spend Sunday mornings people watching in Parque Redencao, so head here early to watch locals pass round the chimarrao, a traditional caffeinated drink.
Petropolis, Agronomia and Lomba Do Pinheiro are three interesting neighbourhoods in the eastern district that can be explored. Live like a local away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds and enjoy dining at local restaurants and sipping coffee as you wander the streets.
To the north east sits the neighbourhood of Moinhos de Vento. Spend an afternoon here wandering amidst trendy boutique shops and quirky cafes. Afterwards, head to nearby Parque Moinhos de Vento for a walk around the lake.
Getting around Porto Alegre
Central Porto Alegre sits only a short 15-minute drive from Salgado Filho International Airport. From here the eastern district is about a 30-minute drive further along winding roads that dip in and out of neighbourhoods.
