About Palawan

The adventure capital of the Philippines, Palawan is renowned for its karst limestone landscapes, idyllic beaches and untouched jungle interior. This island province includes the underwater wonders of the remote Tubbataha Reef National Marine Park and the world’s longest navigable underground river.

Things to do

Surrounded by soaring karst mountains, El Nido is set along a spectacular strip of sand at the northern tip of Palawan. It serves as the launching point for boat trips to explore the Bacuit archipelago, renowned for its picture-perfect lagoons, coral reefs and white sandy beaches.

Divers should venture further north to the beautiful island of Coron where Japanese ships sunk during World War II litter the sea floor. For a unique diving experience, visit Barracuda Lake, which has a distinct thermocline with geothermal energy heating the water as you descend to the bottom.

Visit the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that protects the longest-known underground river in the world. Join one of the boat tours that depart from Sabang Beach to explore its subterranean landscapes and magnificent cave formations.

Get your adrenalin pumping on one of the longest ziplines in Asia at the Irawan Eco-Park. Walk amidst the forest canopy on their elevated suspension bridges, surround yourself with colourful butterflies at the butterfly farm and ride a traditional water buffalo-drawn cart to the Hagedorn Eco-Home.

Getting around

Puerto Princesa International Airport is located within the city centre. Flights connect Manila with Puerto Princesa, with vans and buses making the 230-kilometre journey to El Nido. Buses and jeepneys are the main means of getting around the island.
