Where to stay in Mazatlán

About Mazatlán

Renowned for its beautiful beaches and charismatic historic centre, Mazatlan is a colourful beach resort along the Pacific shores of Sinaloa. Its cosmopolitan population provides an outstanding selection of international restaurants, vibrant arts scene and pulsing nightlife.

Things to do in Mazatlán

Wander around the Centro Historico’s Plaza Machado, which is packed with charming cafes, art galleries and some of the best restaurants in Mazatlan. Its Heritage-listed buildings include magnificent examples of “tropical neoclassical”, including the Angela Peralta Theatre and Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

Delve into the Centro Historico’s vibrant marketplace of Pino Suarez where everything from clothing to traditional Mexican handicrafts is on sale. It has served Mazatlan since the late-19th century, with the central produce market still a source of fruits, vegetables and meats for locals.

Want to see the highest lighthouse in the Americas? Follow the walking trail that leads to El Faro, which offers superb views of Mazatlan and its surrounding beaches. This 19th-century landmark teeters atop Cerro del Creston, where iguanas can often be seen sunning themselves along the lighthouse trail.

If you’re interested in seeing works by some of Mazatlan’s most prominent artists, stop in at the Museo de Arte, which occupies the former residence of the wealthy Hidalgo family. The interior courtyard features a beautiful old banyan tree, while paintings, photography and art installations occupy its three main galleries.

Getting around Mazatlán

General Rafael Buelna International Airport is located around 25 minutes’ drive from Mazatlan and there are long-distance buses to destinations across Mexico. Buses access most of the downtown area sights, together with open-topped taxis known as “pulmonías”.
