About Huskisson

With its rich maritime history, Huskisson is a laid-back town on the shores of Jervis Bay Marine Park. It's part of the spectacular South Coast strip in New South Wales, which serves as a haven for dolphins, whales, penguins and seals. In the town centre you'll find a lively street scene, with plenty of cafes, seafood restaurants, dive shops and surf stores.

Things to do in Huskisson

The South Coast is a world-class whale-watching destination, especially during annual migration season from May to November. In addition to humpbacks and southern right whales, you can also spot playful dolphins, fur seals and penguins frolicking in the marine park.

If you want to make a splash, the local dive shops offer scuba diving and snorkelling trips to Jervis Bay Marine Park. You can also rent kayaks and paddleboards and explore the park at your own pace or sign up for a scenic boat cruise.

There's no better place to soak up Huskisson’s rich shipbuilding heritage than at the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum. It's packed with seafaring artefacts, including the magnificent Lady Denman timber ferry that cruised Sydney Harbour from 1911 to 1979.

According to the “Guinness Book of Records”, the beaches around Jervis Bay boast some of the world’s whitest sands. Hyams Beach sparkles with beauty, as its powder white sand and iridescent water views create a postcard-perfect backdrop. Merimbula Beach is another beautiful area to explore, famous for its multicoloured rock formations and excellent surf break.

Getting around Huskisson

Huskisson is a pint-sized town easy to navigate on foot. If you want to beach hop through Jervis Bay Marine Park or explore the greater Shoalhaven region, it's best to hire a car. From Sydney or Canberra, the drive to Huskisson takes just under three hours.
