Certain cities, such as Baoding and Tianjin, offer a more cosmopolitan flavour, while venturing beyond the city limits reveals rare parts of the Great Wall of China and verdant forest parks.

If you’re starting your Hebei holiday in the capital city of Shijiazhuang, don’t miss visiting the cluster of iconic temples just outside the city centre. Linji Temple boasts one of the five major schools of Buddhism in China, while Longxing Temple is an ancient Buddhist monastery with detailed statues.

Want to see a rarely-visited part of the Great Wall of China? Visit the Jinshan Ridge Great Wall, where you can stroll along the 10.5-kilometre-long section while admiring 67 towers and three beacon towers. This part of the Great Wall also offers incredible panoramic vistas across the verdant countryside and dramatic mountains.

History lovers will enjoy visiting Chengde Mountain Resort, a large ancient complex that is home to imperial palaces and gardens. This Heritage-listed complex is also surrounded by five lakes and features priceless artefacts and religious reliefs. Don’t forget about the fascinating Eastern Qing tombs, which dates back to the Qing dynasty and is the best-preserved extant mausoleum complex in China.

If you’re visiting during winter, head to Wanlong Ski Resort, which boasts a steep slope perfect for both beginners and experienced skiers and snowboarders. You can also rest and rejuvenate your weary muscles in the hot springs on Yueto Island.

Hebei is best accessed by flying into Shijiazhuang Zhengding International Airport or Tianjin Binhai International Airport. The cities within Hebei are well-connected via high-speed trains, well-maintained highways and domestic flights. You can get around most cities using buses or taxis.
