About Gwangjin-gu

Located on the north bank of the Han River, Gwangjin-gu is a bustling residential district east of Seoul. It’s home to the family-focused attractions of Children’s Grand Park and the campus of Konkuk University, as well as one of Seoul’s most popular nightlife areas.

Things to do in Gwangjin-gu

One of Gwangjin-gu’s most popular attractions is Children’s Grand Park, which is located on the former site of Myeong Seong Hwang Hu’s royal tomb. It opened on Children’s Day in 1973, with recreational facilities, a botanical garden and an amusement park. You can get up close to seals and polar bears at the on-site zoo or stretch your legs on one of the scenic hiking trails.

In the north-west of Children’s Grand Park is the Seoul Children's Museum, where you’ll find interactive displays focused on science, art and culture. It was created around the concept of “children designing happiness”, with exhibits for all ages. You can learn about communication in Sound World and experiment with wind and water or coincide your visit with a family-friendly cooking class.

History buffs shouldn’t miss a visit to Achasanseong, an earthen mound fortress originally built during the Baekje Kingdom. It is believed to have played a key role in the defence of Hanseong, which was the name of Seoul during the Joseon dynasty. Learn about its fascinating past along the historic walking trail and enjoy the magnificent views across the Han River and the city of Seoul sprawling below.

Getting around Gwangjin-gu

Gwangjin-gu is a 40-minute train ride from Seoul Station and just under two hours from Incheon International Airport. It’s connected along Line 2, 5 and 7 of the Seoul Subway and is well served by public buses.
