Gianyar is a market town of cultural and historical importance in the Gianyar district of Bali, Indonesia. Even though many tourists visit the town, it still retains its natural beauty and charm. Visitors of all ages will enjoy a day at Bali Bird Park. The park is divided into seven natural habitats all with indigenous plant life. Observe as the storks, pelicans and crested cranes go about their lives, oblivious to the tourist photographs. Take a walk to the Owl House, the Balinese Jungle or thick forests of Sumatra to discover myriad exotic birdlife. Alternatively, Bali Marine and Safari Park is nearby. With safari journeys, river lodges, waterparks and entertainment, it’s a great experience which everyone will enjoy. Those who have access to a vehicle should take a visit to Goa Gajah, 6 kilometres outside Gianyar. The “Elephant Cave” as it is also known, is a significant archaeological complex built as a meditation site in the 11th century. Delve deep into the hidden caves, temple courtyards and marvel at the beauty of the rice terraces behind.

Getting around central Gianyar is easy on foot, although visitors wishing to explore further afield will need to rent a car or take a ’bemo” bus, taxi, or shared service like Uber and Grab. Some accommodations may offer shuttle buses and organised trips. Those wishing to remain independent on their travels should consider hiring a car or a driver, allowing for greater exploration of locations which may be otherwise inaccessible.
