As the Northern Territory’s busiest travel hub, Darwin International Airport services flights to major Australian cities, as well as destinations across Asia. While it’s primarily a commercial airport, the site does share its runways with jets from the Royal Australian Air Force's RAAF Base Darwin.

A single terminal is used for both domestic and international flights, which makes it one of Australia’s most convenient airports. The terminal offers passengers a handful of restaurants and cafes, as well as duty-free shops for international travellers wanting to stock up.

The airport is located in the suburb of Marrara, 13 kilometres from the Darwin CBD. The drive takes around 15-minutes, with most passengers making the trip by taxi or public transport links. Some passengers embark in Darwin, while others use the airport as a jumping point to destinations like Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Darwin International Airport has roots dating back to 1919 when it was established as the national terminal for the high-profile England to Australia air race. It was regularly targeted by Japanese bomb planes throughout Second World War, as it was a major hub for allies propelling Spitfires, Hudson Bombers, Kittyhawks, C-47s other fighter jets into the Pacific.
