Located partway between Fuengirola and Marbella, Calahonda is a lively resort town on the Costa del Sol and a convenient base for exploring the region’s cultural and natural attractions. It’s fringed by a string of sandy beaches that attract tourists during the summer months and is home to restaurants serving cuisine from all corners of the globe.
Spend your days relaxing on the golden sands of Playa de Calahonda, which is backed by a breezy boardwalk with beach bars and restaurants. It extends east to the Dunas de Calahonda, an area of coastal dunes that can be explored along a hiking trail.
Keen golfers can head to Miraflores to enjoy a round on its challenging 18-hole course. A little further afield is the whitewashed village of Mijas, which is nestled in the Sierra de las Nieves. For elevated views across Calahonda and the surrounding coastline, hike to the Mirador de las Aguilas.
Calahonda is around 15 minutes’ drive from Marbella and 35 minutes from Malaga. Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport is 30 minutes away and has flights to destinations across Europe and North Africa. Regular buses travel through Calahonda and the village is small enough to explore on foot.
