Where to stay in Bor

About Bor

Home to one of the largest copper mines in Europe, Bor lies in eastern Serbia surrounded by the mountains of Stol and Crni Vrh. It’s on the doorstep of historic Brestovac Spa and the longest-known cave in Serbia, as well as the spectacular Lazar’s Canyon.

Learn about Bor’s role as a mining hub since the early 20th century at the Mining and Metallurgy Institute Bor, which exhibits artefacts dating from 4,500 BC. Browse the ancient stone tools, medieval jewellery and coins that are on display, together with exhibits detailing the modern technology used in 21st-century mining.

A short drive from the centre of Bor is Borsko Jezero, a sparkling lake fringed by beaches where locals come to swim in the summer months. In the winter, it’s the ski trails of Crni Vrh that attract visitors, with the mountain also a popular launching point for paragliding.

Getting there

Bor is around two hours’ drive from Niš and three hours from Belgrade and Nikola Tesla Airport, which has flights to destinations across Europe and North Africa. Buses are the main means of getting to Bor while having a vehicle gives you greater freedom to explore the surrounding attractions.
